Auckland Road

Crystal Palace, London

This Victorian semi-detached property on Auckland Road had previously been converted into two flats, each with two bedrooms, and was in need of renovation. Having reviewed the internal layouts, I designed a scheme to reconfigure the building and provide an additional two-bedroom top-floor flat within the roof space, with views over the parkland beyond. The local planning authority, having considered the quality of the new accommodation, awarded consent. This project was such a success that a neighbour commissioned me to undertake a similar exercise. In this case, I saw the opportunity to create an additional room by extending the footprint. Having worked on numerous projects in the borough, I advised the client to submit two separate planning applications, so that most of the work was consented under permitted development rights. The result was three enlarged dwellings, including a three-bedroom flat.
