The Savoy Hotel
London
Early in my career I worked on numerous Grade I and II listed buildings in London’s Inns of Court (for The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn) alongside Historical England. Later, I spent many years with the ReardonSmith practice, designing and refurbishing hotels and resorts around the world. So, it was a pleasure and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be put in charge of this prestigious project at The Savoy. As Project Architect, it was my responsibility to oversee the redevelopment and complete refurbishment of the ‘old lady’. As her custodian managing a professional team, there were many long days and sleepless nights steering this project to its successful conclusion. A building of this nature throws up countless challenges, surprises, and constraints. But the joys and satisfaction at what we achieved made this project a career highlight.
